The initiation of Magic Spells through spell casting is one of many ritual activities that many Wiccans engage in. However, not all Wiccans cast magic spells—it's a matter of personal preference. Wiccan Magic Spells are never designed to attempt to harm someone, but rather to offer help or assistance. But there are both evil spells and healing spells in the magickal world and the same magickal processes are used for both.
Wicca is found in many countries throughout the world. First popularized in 1954 by retired British civil servant Gerald Gardner after the British Witchcraft Act was repealed, Gardner claimed that the religion was a modern survival of an old witchcraft religion that had existed in secret for hundreds of years. He further claimed that it had originated in European pre-Christian Paganism and referred to it as the Old Religion.
Many varied Wiccan traditions have evolved from the form originally established by Gardner, with each having distinctive beliefs, rituals, and practices. For the most part, Wicca remains a secretive practice and requires that members be initiated, but there is also a movement of Eclectic Wiccans who do not believe that any doctrine or traditional initiation is necessary in order to practice Wicca. In the 2001 American Religious Identification Survey it was estimated that at least 134,000 adults identified themselves as Wiccans in the United States alone.
Wicca is a variety of Witchcraft founded on magical concepts. Most of its followers readily identify themselves as Witches. It is distinguished by its religious beliefs, its initiatory system, organizational structure, secrecy, and the practice of magic. Wiccans rarely proselytize, and may even deny membership. Once initiated, a member is considered to be a priest or priestess and is expected to develop the skills and responsibility that entails.
Wiccans worship a goddess and a god; they observe the festivals of the eight Sabbats of the year and the full-moon Esbats, using distinctive ritual forms; and they attempt to live by a code of ethics.
The Eclectic Wiccan movement follows wider variations of religious beliefs, with secrecy and organizational structure being of diminished importance. Eclectic Wiccans often adopt similar ritual structures and ethical principles, but often consider themselves to not be witches and do not practice magic.
Most Wiccans classify themselves as Pagans, but it is important to remember that Paganism encompasses many faiths, most of which have little or nothing to do with Wicca or Witchcraft.
Wiccans are prohibited by their belief system from engaging in spells or other activities which harm others. This is a logical result of the Wiccans' belief in the three-fold law, and their commitment to follow the Wiccan Rede—their prime rule of behavior:
Three-fold Law: "All good that a person does to another returns three-fold in this life; harm is also returned three-fold."
The Wiccan Rede: "An' it harm none, do what thou wilt." (In more modern English: "Do whatever you wish as long as it harms no one.")
The Rede obviously prevents a Wiccan witch or follower of the Wiccan path from doing harm to themselves or to others, or even attempting to manipulate others. Thus, many activities that have been traditionally attributed to Wiccans—from the laying of curses to conducting love spells—are in fact, strictly forbidden to them.
Real Wiccan Magic Spells can be used to supply protection, bless, sanctify, perform healings, and to assist yourself or others when the need arises. Wiccan magic spells can be used for simple and complex blessings or purifications, to renew one's spirit, and heal mental and physical afflictions, to protect and guard people and physical and spiritual locations from curses and hexes, and to repel evil magic spells and curses. Wicca magic spells and rituals that work are designed to be defensive, helpful, never harmful or to place anyone or anything at risk.
